So it's been almost 2 months. I became a [relatively] happy homeowner and learned that doing that takes up pretty much every second of your time and money at the beginning. At this point, Princess and I have just gotten lazy and it's cold and we had the holidays so I have more time. Plus I made it a resolution to blog, run more, eat less, and lose like 30 lbs over 2009. Trying to be 15 lbs lighter by my 30th in June. I need to get a scale.
Quick recap of end of 2008, I stopped moving after the 5k and gave in to all the wonderful end of year treats and beverages that were constantly around me. I haven't gotten huge, I think I'm kind of at my maximum lazy-ass threshold which, thanks to genetics, isn't obese. I am lucky. However, I'm also not close to skinny or even healthy yet and I feel like crap and keep being sick, so I need to get my ass in gear. January is the new January.
Thurs Jan 1
Exercise - 0 [gave myself a pass, it's a holiday]
Food - Made homemade cinnamon buns FROM SCRATCH [me, who knew?], had 1 for breakfast.
Had some tea and an apple. Went to 5 Keane for NY's pork, squash, roasted potatoes, some delicious cran/orange gravy, and brocolli. Had one of those Ferrer Rocher [splg?] candies [addictive, thankfully they were almost gone] and some cherry pie with vanilla ice cream, and peppermint tea for dessert. Came back home and had another cinnamon bun [it's a holiday] and split the last bag of movie theater butter popcorn with darling and went to bed. Oh, probably had some juice and water too, I have had the plague since the end of November - it keeps getting better and then coming back uglier. FUN. Unfortunately it's not one of those sicknesses that makes me lose weight. Not that that is a healthy way to lose weight, but it would be a nice perk to this vile suffering.
Fri Jan 2
Exercise - 0 I seriously had all intentions but woke up and felt like death, drove Princess to work, went back to bed until 11 and then cleaned the kitchen, bathroom, did laundry, vacuumed and watched like 8 episodes of Law & Order SVU. I had dinner plans and just ran out of time....and Ed had even set up the Wii Fit. I am a bad Resolver. Or Resolutionizer?
Food - Had my old standby, the Everything bagel with butter and cream cheese [so much more appealing than oatmeal or toast or scrambled egg whites....] and some tea. I then had an orange and a yogurt and some more juice and water, due to illness. I had a mac&cheese lean cuisine w/ tomatoes around 3 and some more tea. I threw away lots of my hidden candy whilst cleaning. Not all of it, I'll be honest. Went out for Indian with Erin and Carolyn and met her new bf, Matt - he's lovely. This is one way to diet: maybe it's because I already have a bad hack but this chicken vindaloo was sooo spicy that I could hardly make a dent in it. So I had my glass of wine, the samosa was ok, and mostly rice. My face was like red and my eyes were watery the entire meal, nice first impression to Matt. Erin and I spent a good amount of the night referring to Facebook and Myspace so he probably thinks we're weird anyway. We went to Miracle of Science for a cocktail, I had a kind of gross [but only $5] gin and tonic. I think gin and tonics are a 3rd or 4th drink for me, it didn't go down as easy as I would've liked. It's what I get for attempting to be classier than I actually am. Speaking of that, I'm going to a party and Craige and Aaron's tonight [so excited to see their new house!] and need to bring an app/dessert/booze. I have 2 bottle of Boone's in my fridge [not joking], is it trashy or awesome to bring one? Mortgages make you poor... And I legitimately feel Snow Creek Berry is delicious. Ok, so came home and had 2 pieces of Harry's holiday cinnamon-raisin toast with butter for a nightcap. And made some tea that tasted gnarly.
Sat Jan 3
Exercise - will be biking to the season 2 finale of Brotherhood that I got from Netflix. It's usually around 55 minutes, that will be good for me.
Food - Princess made me 2 eggs on an everything bagel with ham and cheese and some tea. He is a good boyfriend. We did almost murder each other mid-November while moving out of 203. That apartment was dirty and filled with stuff and 3 floors up and we were just sooo over it and tired and cranky from the long and complicated home-buying process. However, since then we have come to an understanding and have been getting along remarkably well. Moving is stressful, as are bills and leaky things that you don't anticipate leaking and appliances that don't work that you did anticipate working, etc. We fight ugly but we do get everything out and get over stuff so hopefully things will continue on a more rational path. The good thing is, it's not one of us being a super-douche and the other being normal, we are both super-douches. How that is a plus, I don't know but somehow it is...
Ok, off to paint some trim, ride the bike and prepare for the partay tonight. I'm also going to work out a training plan for our next goal: April 26 - James Joyce Ramble in Dedham. It's a 10k that my daddy runs ever year. Of course, he runs it a week after the marathon which I will NOT be doing, but if successful, it will be a milestone for me nonetheless.

"Why doesn't Wendy's deliver?"
I seriously just asked Ed that. It's been one of those weekends. Let's see, last note was Thursday. Sox came back, it was awesome. We won again last night and in about 20 minutes game 7 will start. I am stoked. I haven't exercised a peep but got a pedometer [which in my sad little head means by osmosis I'll magically be motivated to move] and will do something after work tomorrow. My arms are back to flabby, my lifestyle is back to lethargic. I feel kind of crazy. No good. Some of that is probably these 8 o'clock games, my job, and the house but some of it is no endorphins. Here's a food recap-
Friday: In Cambridge [yay!]
Had a Finagle HEC on everything....OMG, this was one of the BEST breakfast sandwiches ever. For real, like great combo of flavors, the bagel was fresh, right proportions of ingredients, it was rad. Made some tea at work, had a little apple that came with it. For lunch, met with PYV and had some Thai [pad see yu from Similans, delish] and a diet Pepsi. Should've had a yogurt in the afternoon but instead had a snickers and more tea. It gave me two snickers, I was siked. That machine errs in my favor more often than not, so I have a snack for next week already! Headed home. I think I made some eggs and toast for dinner? And had a couple glasses of Riesling? I can't remember. We did nothing, went to bed at like 11:30. I brought toast to bed, this is my new thing.
Saturday: Slept till 10:30ish? Ed woke me up with MCDONALDS BREAKFAST. I love him. I was ready to stab him 3 hours later but we really are perfect for each other and he gets me. So half a Sausage McGriddle and an Egg McMuffin started my day, awesome. Had some water/juice with that to cut the extreme salt. Packed some stuff, had an apple and headed to WR, got a large DD tea for the ride. Had a few choco-covered pretzels for a snack, nothing else. Saw my dad's pics from Azerbaijan, amazing. Again, so glad he made it back in one piece. My cat was kinder to me than the prior visit, bastard. Grabbed some Sugar cupcakes and a bottle of red and white for my trip to Pembroke to watch game 6 with Work Lindsay and Ex-Work Meaghan and their boyfriend's both named Jesse. Jesse B's son was there too, he is super cute and very well behaved. Kids still scare me, I was so impressed with how LR knew when he should go to bed and what he should eat and Jesse got him a sippy cup when he hadn't even asked. So much responsibility, I can't wait to babysit our friends'/siblings' kids on weekends. And we'll leave it at that.
At LR's, had some chips and salsa, hummus and pita [both TJ's..really good]. 3 slices of pizza, a couple glasses of wine. Everything was delicious. I didn't eat a cupcake, trying to be semi-good? Headed home after we won [woo-hoo!] and had a chocolate twizzler and some toast.
Sunday: Lazy lazy lazy. Woke up at like 11? Packed and cleaned all day, productive but there is still sooo much to do. Ed made a scrambled egg, tomato, cheese thing with toast for breakfast. It was delicious, had it with some tea and watered down juice. Today was not a good food day, thus the title of this blog. I was tired and lazy and it's finally turned cold, like heat needs to be on cold. I think it reached 50 today, maybe? I just went out for the first time right before the game to grab ice cream and water, how sad. Anyhow, had a couple bites of a corn dog, a quesadilla, a bowl of cereal, and now I'm having a fettuccine LC. I am single-handedly keeping TJs in business with the first 4 of that list of 5 , wow. I also had a few spoonfuls [big spoonfuls but still, probably 4-5 oz] for B&J Pumpkin Cheesecake seasonal ice cream. That shit is delicious, I was impressed with my restraint. Princess is napping [Pink Hat] and hasn't discovered it yet, once it's a known food item, it will be gone in seconds. I'll prob grab a glass of wine and finish leafing through my magazines while I watch the game. So exciting, so unnerving. I love/hate October baseball; GO SOX!!

Amusee Bouche
7 years of French and I'm 80% sure I spelled that wrong. I'm apparently on a day on, day off rotation with the blog right now. Maybe the honeymoon period is over?
So yesterday I worked in Cambridge, hit up the DD for a HEC on a croissant [a good one this time!] and a tea for breakfast. A bag of Cheetos for lunch, I'm apparently a 17 year old dude. Got home early because we were supposed to look over our P&S [I'm 90 - ackk], but it didn't happen. Had some water and a LC cannelloni or something equally disgusting, I was starving and being a douche and we had plans for 8 and I knew I would never make it.
Headed over to Bart and Elena's, friends from work that we are helping move next weekend, for wine and cheese. Elena put out and AMAZING spread: melon and prosciutto, cucumbers, olives, 6 or 7 cheeses, some weird date nut palate cleansing thing, and a bunch of wonderful baguettes and breads. SO GOOD. We had some red wine with that and it was a really nice night. They are currently in Belmont which is scary-quiet. Beautiful, but I can see how that guy that wrote Election and Little Children resides there - the absolute nothingness must be quite inspiring for some people. It frightens me. After that, we had a bomb-ass apple tart from some bakery and some jasmine green tea and Italian cookies [thanks to Ed's company party!] and this Sauternes wine we brought. It's French and desserty and I love it.
Got up today, Saturday, and noted that our fridge had become as frat-like as the rest of our apartment. I am not a housekeeper, I'm actually kind of a slob - not dirty or rotting, just messy and disorganized. Usually we have food though, today not so much. So we went to Shaw's, LBS raging - I was so thankful when I was getting my ham from the deli that the butcher offered me the first slice, it definitely prevented me passing out. On our way out, you could smell the McDonald's fries. Have we discussed how I looooove McDonald's? Supersize Me was like porn, made me hungry. On the way in, I had initially tried to sway Princess into stopping, he said no. On the way out, I remarked "OMG, can you smell the deliciousness of the fries?" He could. It was well after the 11:30 weekend breakfast cut-off but I tried my hardest: while loading the groceries in the trunk I whispered "Come on, a little cheeseburger happy meal amusee bouche before breakfast? It would be so good!" He laughed, but it was a big no. Our priorities are so different. Sad.
Got home, Darling made me some fried eggs and I had a couple slices of Iggy's bread, one plain, one with mozzarella, ham and tomatoes on it. I eat the same like 9 things over and over, huh? Sad, I never considered myself cosmopolitan whatsoever but when it's glaringly obvious that you really do eat like a 7 year old [and Italian 7 year old, but still] at age 29, it's kind of weird. Anyhow, had some juice/seltzer combo, sat around for like 5 minutes and then went back to bed. I love having no responsibilities. Keep in mind, I woke up at like 10:30, and was back in bed by 1:30. And it was nice out. L-A-Z-Y.
Woke up at 3, checked my email, Ed had been out and came home. We went for a walk at like 4 over to Bob's in Meffa. Bob's is amazing, if we ever get married they are totally doing our wedding. I had never been in the actual store, I could have eaten everything. We got some sausage and a slice of pizza and and Evian for the road. Headed back, probably like a 2-3 mile trip all around? A very pleasant fall day. Grabbed some beer [Smutty Pumpkin for Darling, Raspberry UFO for me] and now we are home, hopefully for the evening. Ed is making a stew of some kind....he is a very good cook but more into meat and spice than fair little me and from the smell of it, not sure if I'll be such a fan. I may just eat more bread for dinner, maybe a yogurt. And some beer.
Blog is making me realize I drink MUCH more than I thought. Not like holic-drink, but it is interesting. Might explain more of the tummy than I initially thought it was responsible for. Can someone make healthy booze?

Mind the Gap
So it's been a little while since my last post, maybe 27 hours but I've been so good at posting regularly! Whatever, I will not beat myself up. First thing to report today is that I did wind up doing my arm exercises yesterday, with better form. Secondly, I am sore as helllll today, legs and arms. I think that means it's working? Princess said I look like I'm getting skinnier but he is sweet like that on occasion, even if it is a blatant lie. And that is why I love him.
After my arms and my 2 hours of make up, I picked up Meagan in Rozzie and headed to The Alchemist. I was terrified of Triple Ds [even with a rad karaoke night], but had heard good things about the place since the transition/yuppification. I started the night with a drink [shocker], asked if the sangria was good, got a yes, and ordered it. I need like an electric collar for when I try to order sangria in public. It's amazing once in a while and the rest of the times it ranges from ehhh to gross. I have a killer homemade sangria recipe from Pedro at work and I really should just stick to that. This tasted like an apple Jack Daniels wine cooler of a bad flavor of Boones' Farm. Impossible, I know. I LOVE BF, but some of their flavors are rank. Come to think of it, their sangria actually tasted better than this sangria and i seem to recall BF sangria having a slight vomit odor. So yeah, I think it may have been a white sangria - which really needs to be handled properly - but whatever it was, gnarly to the point that I had like 5 sips and put it to the side.
Making up for this was the caprese salad [dope tomatoes, right amount and flavor of balsamic, leafy greens on the side, enough cheese!] and little flatbread and oil they bring you. Both were excellent. For someone with not an Italian bone in her body, I sure have the palate of those folks. The I got the steak tips and fries for dinner, delicious...Highland Kitchen does them better, but HK is amazing. I also ordered a glass of Malbec with my steak, which was sooooo much better than the sangria. And a HUGE pour. I actually wound up pouring my remaining sangria into my wine when it was 2/3 gone and it was a world of improvement.
That was that, we headed to the Jeannie. The JJ has gone immensely down hill [god, this post is making me feel old - bitch bitch bitch, the kids these days, up hill both ways, etc.] since it was my stomping grounds in the early 2000s. We used to go there every Saturday for karaoke. We tried again last night, but they switched DJs and few years ago and I do not know what it is about a karaoke dj but they can be kind of a-holes. I may be projecting since it's my life goal to BE a karaoke dj and now I just work as a sales slave for networking gear, so I'm hating. But he has yet to dazzle me. And the crowd....first of all, half the people were like 19, I swear. There was one crazy woman in a pink jumpsuit at the bar. I loathe places with only one stall in the bathroom [TTs!]. And the place turned into like Allston after 11:30. Crowded, hot, too many people, I couldn't tell who was hiding a shiv in their ankle, skankariffic clothes everywhere, and wayyyy too much hoochie dancing. It's karaoke, some is allowed, but leave room for the holy ghost! Plus some of the JP hipsters were irritating too, but at least they were there to sing and be obnoxious with their friends, not act like they were at Rain nightclub in Saugus.
Plus, and I bleed Boston, never leaving but, I think I've determined why I crossed the River. We do have better food and more affordable apts and more stuff to do within my interests and tax brackets. But beyond that, half the people I saw last night either went to my high school or were younger siblings/friends of people I grew up with. I have my too-cool death glare down pat [thanks Orange Lone], and don't remember any of these people on a name/friendly basis, but it's enough to put you on guard that you may run into someone you haven't seen in a long-ass time. Which may be fun...for 2 minutes and then be awful. Not my scene, I'm a thousand I guess, it did make me sad to see the old stomping grounds go sooooo downhill.
Back to reality, I had a diet coke and 2 Coronas and a water for the rest of the night. Had a good time with Meagan and Emily and her dad. Darling called me like 4 times at 1:20 [I NEVER call when he is out, I hate a nag] and wasn't really making sense but I figured whatever. Got home and there's like piles of stuff that was previously on the couch now on the floor and half our magnets all over the kitchen floor. And the bar to the freezer door almost impaled me when I opened it [after following the trail of destruction, I figured I had to check and make sure he wasn't trying to charge his phone in there or something]. He was already in bed so I went in and gave my most annoyed "What the fuck happened to the house, dude?" Nothing. Try again, still nothing. Grab his foot and shake. Eyes open, "What were you drinking?".
"Feeelsi ilkssie mngdhhdvppppp...."
"What?"
"Eeeksi bliffghippppy....."
"You're such a loser"
Love sweet love.

Blah Sunday
So it's kind of a waste of a day. I woke up at 4am and couldn't sleep, so I hung out and read until like 6 and then got a few more hours, still way too early for a Sunday. Thanks again to Trans Hardwoods and my landlord for ruining my first sleep in late [at home] weekend in a long ass time. Polyurethane smells lovely in the morning.
I made myself a healthy breakfast of 2 fried eggs [good girl style in pan spray and Earth Balance; oh how I miss butter] and a bowl of some Paul Newman flake cereal that has dried strawberries in it. Still on the fence about that, but it's not god-awful. I had it with soy milk and a banana and it's 3:15 now and I'm still full.
Went out and picked up Darling's nephew's 2nd [!] birthday gifts around Somerville. Had an "Amanda Palmer" [their name] from the 1369 Coffee Shop while out and about. I really want to like that place but I have a fundamental problem with establishments that have no customers, 4 hipsters behind the counter, dressed to the nines, and still take 3 full minutes to look in my direction, never mind acknowledge me. And said-acknowledgment was a grunt, not a how are you or even a hey. Plus, I sized up [accurately] my counter-boy as being a bit on the dumb side of the fence and made an effort to explicitly order a "Half Iced-Tea, Half Lemonade". Another minute of a blank stare followed and I'm trying to figure out how to further simplify that and he finally lights up and goes "Arnold Palmer?". I almost asked him if his fedora [side note: it's 80 degrees out, and 1369 is not AC'd] was on too tight.
Exercise....ehh, it's Sunday. Does walking around Target for 2 hours among legions of returning students count? I pushed a cart the whole time. And carried all 5 bags up our 3 flights at once. It will have to do, we were supposed to help my trivia compadres [Dragonhearts unite!] move a couch or 2 but they just indicated they're all set. It's like a higher power WANTS me to sit on my ass all day...

Is it bad that I'm eating Ben and Jerry's while typing this?
Is it worse that it's Saturday night at 10:17 and I'm blogging? You decide.
So I was successful with my hour on the bike, I tuned into MTV's new show, Busted instead of Intervention. MTV puts crack in their TV, I swear. I am a college-educated, professional, late-20 something, who grew up in a good home, without real cable, and I will sit in front of a Making Of The Band marathon like there is no tomorrow. Busted is awesome, it's COPS for the under 25 crowd, lots of pot and DUI citations, lots of dumbasses, love it.
I biked and then did my poor form arm exercises. With an old Cosmo Girl article and Ed's help, I made up a regimen of 6 arm exercises. At this point, I'm happy just to be doing them. Darling commented the other day that my form is crap and offered to help me fix that. I told him thanks but I'm going to hold off until I get more accustomed to doing the reps [15 each for each arm, sadly that's a lot for me], then fix my form. Right now between that and the bike, I am utterly exhausted when I complete them and that is enough for me.
As bonus points, I walked to and from Davis to pick up some dry cleaning. I resisted the urge to pick up a loaf of When Pigs Fly bread, a.k.a. my weakness. Instead I had an apple early afternoon and some Poland Spring seltzer. Then I made some diced tomatoes and mozarella with oil and vinegar and spices on it [so good] when I thought we weren't doing anything for supper. Of course, then we decided to go get mexican at La Tacqueria Mexicana [apologies on that spelling], which we did. I had a chicken quesadilla and some rice and beans and an ass-load of chips and salsa to pre-game. I also had 2 fruity margaritas, these are the real thing not the 100% corn syrup frozen margaritas, but I know booze isn't the best thing for rapid weight loss. I'm at a point now where I enjoy my cocktails, and I'd like to keep them in my life. We shall see; Darling always says the best way to lose weight is to stop drinking for a while.
To set this indulgence off, we walked there and back, which is probably a mile each way. To further set that off, I had intentions of hitting up JP Licks for a cone on the dog path. I vetoed this, some creeps have been harrassing yuppies on the path lately and STEALING IPHONES. I can't imagine what I would do if some motherfucker got a hold of mine, so I'm steering clear for a while. Instead, got a pint of Half Baked at Dillip's and rationed myself out a very small portion. Yeah, self restraint!
Tonight's plus: I stopped to get a water on my way home and a fellow patron commented that she "loved my hayh cullah". She was sweet, I blushed and thanked her. Then on my way out, I heard her say to the clerk "Yeah, you'll staht seeing all the students back around now". She thinks I'm 20, maybe even 18: YES! Black hooded sweatshirt, works every time.
Tonight's wahhh-wahhh: Arrived home to a darkened house [Darling is off at a party, I'm anti-social]. Wandered barefoot into the kitchen to get a spoon and mug for the B&J. Upon closing in on the light switch, I stopped short upon seeing what looked like an odd dark little shadow on the floor. Thought to myself - sarcastically- "Ha, it's probably a dead mouse, I hate this place". Well the lights go on and Yahtzee! The welcome wagon is here in a tiny lifeless grey body, gross claws and little teeth blazing. We seriously need to move. Until then, flip flops on at all times.
All in all, the Sox won. It still feels like summer. I'm in the middle of a 3 day weekend. I have a pile of magazines and bad cable waiting for me. Barbecue with my parents coming up on Monday. Life is good.
