I'm not even going to fake it with the where the fuck did the past 3 months go comments...it was summer, I am 30, people I know like to get married, and have babies, and move, and host BBQs. I like to go on vacation and to Red Sox games and out for dinner. The economy sucks and I'd like to keep my job. I have no excuses.
So as I mentioned in my last post, I need a new sub-title. I am now 30, a rubenesque-joggy 30. I have good days and bad - ran a 5k with Bobby G on Sunday and just wolfed 4 plus-sized Nutella s'mores because it's Thursday and why not. Que sera, sera.
I keep reading all these blogs and getting Blog-Envy [lamest sounding term ever, noted] so I am really going to REALLY try and get it together for October. New month, new quarter, no big interuptive vacations or events planned for the near future. The weather is lovely, life is pretty good. I need to embrace it and take note. I'm deciding my 30s are going to get a bit more introspective. Not wackadoo-hippy, and hopefully not old, but I really do need to get it together to stop feeling so pointlessly frantic all the time.
One of my new, or old but new recognization [is that a word? no], goals is to not whine.bitch.complain so goddamn much. Or if I do at least also take the time to consider how awesome 99.99999999997% of my life actually is. This will yield more lists, yay and nay, good and bad, happy and annoyed, whatever and whatever. I LOVE LISTS! ProRun is almost over and I'm sick so I need to go to bed but to start here are 5 things I'm happy and thankful for right now:
1. I love my house. I love turning on to my street. I love my overgrown yard. I love my mess.
2. I love that we are going to Vegas in December. It's not even October and I can almost TASTE it already.
3. I love cable. Sad sad sad but true.
4. I love that tomorrow is Friday.
5. I love that I have a washer and dryer in my own basement. Laundry is so much more palatable when you do not need to leave your house to do it.
And as a bonus per the preview I just watched, 6. I love that MICHAEL KORS IS BACK on Runway next week! Woot!
1 non-love is that another bulb in the chandelier just blew....that leaves me with 2 out of 6 remaining. It's like 1890 up in here.

Time to change the blog-blurb
Because I am no longer "trying" not to be a fat 30 year old. I am in fact 30, and I am still a little too thick around the middle for my liking. I've been lazy. What else is new? Being lazy is a theme of my life I keep trying to deny, but I L-O-V-E doing nothing!
Adding fuel to the fire, work is slow due to our lovely economy. With that, it's also an odd mix of stressy and paranoid. I still have stuff to do [a good thing!] but minus the normal screw ups, I have a lot of down-time. One would think this would increase the amount of blogging, but not the case. Lack of inspiration or motivation or activity or whatever is like quicksand, it sucks you in! I always thought I was lying [or "exaggerating" as we say in sales] when asked in an interview what my weaknesses were and I always replied "I need to have more to do rather than less". Apparently this prophesy has self-fulfilled.
With the amount of time I have on my hands these days I should have a clean house, 3 handmade dresses, a couple domestic projects started, my magazine clippings organized and archived, a spreadsheet of my life color-coded for reference, my eyeshadows organized by shade, and some needlepoint started. Instead I have half-ass attempts at getting it together. The piles of post-its are worse than ever! So I need to really get it together, for real.
One plus to being 30 is that I've noticed when I try and talk myself out of exercising, a part of my brain creeps in with "You're not getting any younger". Not in a mean way [I am president of my own fan club, always], but in a factual way. Seriously, I'm 30. This is so far applying to eyecream and exercising, and eating healthy - sort of. Just this July, AKA Newly Inspired July [even if I have to fake it], I have been pretty good - running yesterday and riding the bike today. Granted I had both days off, but the hope is that I get into a good groove through Sunday and then it carries over to the work week and FOREVER! Life changes are good it they are positive.
I will try and use this to hold me accountable, fingers crossed. Let's see, since forever ago what's changed. Not a whole lot, same house, same job [yay!], Ed and I still love eachother, no pets. New TV, my sister is a blessed human and decided to buy is a 40 inch flat screen for fun. Love her. Still go to trivia, family is still well and good. Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died last week. I'm only throwing that out there because I'm watching MTV on my giant television and there is a constant scroll of MJ news. We had an awesome vacation to Seattle/SF and while it's kind of sad to have nothing to look forward to, it's sooo nice to have that out of the way. I have something to talk about when people ask and nothing to pack or save money for for the balance of the summer. Work Lindsay and I are planning a Thelma & Louise trip to the West, but that is contingent upon us keeping our employment.
So it's July 2, let's recap so far and I need to promise to keep up on things better.
Wed 7/1
No work [mandatory PTO], got a new TV. Ran 2.2 miles in the mist [have I mentioned it does nothing but rain these days?]. Breakfast was scrambled eggs w/ cheese and 2 slices of toast, tea, some seltzery concoction. Spent the day shopping, treated myself to McDonalds post-Wal-Mart [does it get more American than that?]...it was so good. It was a day off, I like to have fully wonderful days off. Bad shopping and fast food were necessary to deal with the craptacular that Mother Nature was putting on outside. Ed came home and we ordered Pizza and had that with beer. I've taken to mixing my UFO with seltzer and lemonade and it is divine. So I had half a Pinky's basil and tomato and a small bowl of caesar salad and a beer. Not awful. I don't think I had desert, we have nothing in the house desert-worthy but I am so spacey lately that I can't remember.
Thu 7/2
Ondemand on my cable is busted. Comcast really sucks, I hope FIOS gets here quickly and is a big imporvement. Biked for 45 min while watching the end of The Money Pit, about 10 miles. I had a HEC on TJs whole grain toast and some tea and juice. I also had most of an apple [I used part of it to set new fruit fly traps, we have an issue this week due to an overripe pineapple and Darling's inability to use the trash can for disposal of food items]. I just had a slice of pizza for a late lunch. I need to eat more frequently I think, I got from full to starving and then full-full again and it's annoying. Add it to the list. Speaking of which, here are some current life goals:
Keep a better blog.
Eat fewer sweets, cut down from half the breadbasket to a piece.
Run or something every day.
Get up to a half marathon before it snows.
Get my budget and calendar in order.
I have a goddamn iPhone 3Gs [new, and I LOVE it], they must have an app for this.
Do dog research, not for now...but maybe like 2012. I like a long runway.
We're back to thinking bull terriers. They are badass.
Get rid of fruitflies in our house. This is nasty.
Maybe I should add "watch better TV" to my list. I just discovered Maria Full of Grace is on IFC. It has SUB-TITLES! I have never watched anything in my life with sub-titles. I think I've heard this is good, and I know it has something to do with drugs and teenagers, 2 themes I enjoy, so I'm going to stick it out. Very hard to type and read the television simultaneously so that's all for now. Gaudet, out!

No Joke: No Sweets for a Month!
No April Fool's Day prank, the lack of sugar and carbs has made me too sluggish to think of anything clever.
Won't get into the past half month, sheer laziness per usual. I sit and stare at a screen all day and vary my distractions and lately blogging hasn't been on my radar. New month, I am re-energized and motivated and ready to go. That might be the most redundant sentence I've ever composed, but I'm trying to rally...
To sum up the past couple weeks, I've been eating ok and working out probably 3-4 times a week, nothing good or progressive [i.e. more than 2 miles at once] but I've been consistent. Nothing crazy and gluttonous food-wise either, too much bread [always] and Ed and I did split a pint of B&J last night as a farewell to sugar for April [except Easter, already looking forward to it], but I now need to take radical action to see any of the changes I want to see.
April 1 is here, new diet and life plan. Way more jogging - 25 days till the 10k - ACCCKK!!!! No sugar, less..maybe no...bread, more fruits and veggies, less processed crap. No beer? Not sure why I threw that in, I only drink beer at trivia but it just makes me FEEL fat. I need to look good and feel good, I sound brainwashed but I am not. Just scared of turning 30.
Not of being old or a failure, just in being a blob of what used to be skinny and healthy. I evaluated my life station on my hellish drive to Westford today and I am actually quite content and happy, I am very lucky. Complaints would be that I have no pill to suddenly lose 30 lbs and gain muscle, and having to drive to Westford twice a week. These are not awful by any stretch.
I'll write up my diet details this weekend so I have to stick to it. Frankly, right now I'm tired from work and my run [2.3 miles, not on a track in drizzly 40s - woo-hoo!] and want to watch The Tudors and focus on anything besides the dessert I will not be having. I feel tired but pretty awesome, I just need some good and distracting audio and I can kind of go on auto-pilot. Plus running on the street was not nearly as bad a transition as I thought it would be. Here is what I ran:
For consumption, oatmeal with SF syrup, milk and bananas. Katsu/sushi lunch box from Karma with gyoza, rice and soup [DC with lemon] with LR at lunch. No snacks, just an apple on the ride home and some Propel and tea all day. Drinking Propel now, will have a yogurt [sugar is ok in jam or yogurt...there is a method to my madnes, I just need to figure it out]. Ending my day with tea WITHOUT a sweet, a new habit I need to get into.
Ok, back to handsome Brandon Charles. God bless OnDemand.

Why isn't a single cookie spelled "cooky"?

I'm still not sure what his motivation is but I was awoken this morning, or actually this afternoon [slept till 12:15, it was awesome] to tea and a ham egg and cheese on a bagel IN BED! And I was having one of those annoyingly realistic dreams about life - it was depressing me so I was extra thrilled when I woke up to real life AND food. He is so sweet. Speaking of sweet, Mr. Homemaker then decided to make chocolate chip cookies from scratch, with extra flour so they poofed into little sconey-muffin type bulbous cookies. By the time they were done I was sitting on the couch checking my email and he comes in a presents me with a single cookie and some milk, thus the snapshot. Seriously? I keep asking him what he did or what he wants to do...I am skeptical, but maybe he's just being nice? Or maybe he lost his half of our house in some sort of complicated gambling scenario. Who knows, but I'll take it.
No exercise today, I think I may take a pass - a bum out becuase it's a weekend day and so much easier to work out on weekends than weekdays [esp today where I am a total loser and Ed is going to a party and it's supposed to blizzard]. But my body hurts! I think the 80 minutes last night was a bit much. I did just receive the complete series of The Wire from amazon.com, SO EXCITED! I got it for $90 the day after Xmas, a steal since I've seen it for $150-255 listed everywhere else. So I may do some light bike riding to an episode or 2.
For now, I am keeping wildly active by doing laundry and cleaning the house. I may try and paint the touch-up spots that have needed touching up since the first week of November. I think I actually still have tape up in some parts of my house...

Weekend Update
So Saturday we headed back, I won't get into details but I have another item on my long list of why I hate stupid Jersey cops. Seriously, I'm flying to and from the next time we go see them. Whatever. Plus there was traffic getting into NY state. After some discussion with my parents' neighbor Evan, we may need to reevaluate our route if we do choose to drive down again.
On the bright side, had a PHENOMENAL everything bagel with butter and CC [it was a theme of the weekend apparently] and a tea from a place called Bagel Garden [?] on route 202 in East Shitshoe Nowhere NJ. It was really good. Princess had some kind of sandwich with lox and tomatoes as well, and he said that was really good too. So good find, good stamina for the ride home. Had a later pit stop at a rest area in CT and split a chipwich and faux ice cream drumstick from the machine, and a hot cocoa from the machine [usually I'm a big fan, this one not so much. Ed drank most of it.]. Made it home in like 6.5? hours, around 6:30. Napped.
Headed over to Erin's to catch the game. I love that we live across the street from each other, I will be sad to move if we ever get our house [it's going well, I'm just a pessimist by nature about big deals like this]. I showered, popped on sweatpants and was over there in 2 seconds. We ordered some pizza - big shout out to Angelina's in Teele Square, by far the best pizza in the area [trumped only by Pinnocchio's in Harvard Square, IMHO], I had a Nantucket Nectar's lemon tea. No booze, I was exhausted and kind of trying to chill out? Ed is on the wagon, I am definitely not but trying to be more conscious. Erin made pudding, chocolate, it was awesome. I learned she hates the skin on the top. no idea why I found this surprising [I HEART the skin], but I did - totally makes sense in hindsight. Anyhow, so good.
Stayed over there until like 11:30, came home and crashed. The game went 12 innings and we lost so I'm glad I went to bed. I am so not quitting on my team but if TBS and MLB insist on having 8-8:30 and 9 pm starts, I'm going to bed, that's it. Slept till ELEVEN the next morning....that was nice.
Sunday, got some WPF, nad 2 pieces of toast with 2 fried eggs. Some tea, some juice. Headed over to WR after some cleaning and errands. Had some grapes throughout the afternoon. Daddy made a dinner of steak, mustard sauce, potatoes, asparagus, pork. Had a chunk of the WPF Pumpkin bread pudding cake I brought over. Had a glass of red wine and some juice. May have had a banana? It's Monday night now and it's all a blur. Drove my dad to the airport for his trek to Azerbaijan, he is excited and nervous and so are we.

M-T-W-TH
Ok I am uber far behind and trying to cram this in before the scond episode of the Office. Ed wants to watch the dbate but goddamn it'll be all over YouTube tomorrow and I can no longer watch TV at my job now that I have real responsibilities so I WIN. Will spell check later.
Monday - Westford...
Oatmeal with SM and banana; tea
A Yogurt
Afternoon Snickers w/ more tea
Post work piece of bread and butter
Post work piece of ham [I am a neanderthal]
Went for a run/walk with Erin
Did my arms
Had a big-ass burger Ed made [w/ cheese and tomatoes on it; yum!]
Ate some late-night popcorn
Had a glass or 2 of wine
Tuesday ACCCCKKK. I totally didn't finish in time but it doesn't matter because the frigging debate is on EVERY CHANNEL. This sucks.
Westford as well
Oatmeal for breakfast, tea
Grilled Cheese and Tomato w/ fries for lunch
Cherry Coke Zero [delicious!]
Trivia Pizza
3 glasses of Shiraz
4th place. 4th place is the worst at trivia, I'd rather totally suck than get 4th.
No exercise, end of the quarter and I was at work till like 6 something
Wednesday - had a Dr appt and worked from Cambridge
Multigrain cheerios with a banana and some soy milk
Had a piece of toast too, and some tea
Boca cheese quesadilla and a diet coke for lunch
Afternoon 3 Musketeers [getting bad with the PM candy habit...] and more tea
Got home late [Target after work, kept under $100, woo-hoo!], no exercise. I suck.
Had a rummalicious ginger and lime cocktail post-work
Ate some edmamae and an english muffin with earth balance and garlic salt late-night
Today, finally I'm caught up!
Late start, conference call confusion and I left here at like 8:30, got to WF at 9:30
Crappy cafe bagel with butter and cream cheese...
Cream cheese tasted funkified so I removed half of it
More tea.
Had Japanese for lunch with Work-Lindsay. Karma near the office.
Generally good, today gross.
Rotten avacado, weird chicken, she brought me hot n sour and not miso.
The Chicken Katsu $9 lunch box was a bum out. Diet coke was good.
Had a yogurt on the ride home.
Ran with Erin and Josh and Mia, most of the entire dog path Cedar to Alewife.
Pausing at our breaks. I ran fast for fear that Josh would mock me. Boys.
Kind of have a odd half headache and feel deathly faint right now.
Can't wait for Saturday! Not.
Had 2 pieces of WPF toast with butter and garlic salt
Drinking some watered down juice.
Considering making some tea and downing a couple of the Double-Choco Milanos I have hidden in the bedroom....hmm.
Darling is making Chicken Katsu right now and I'm bummed itw as already ruined for me today. Smells divine!

Supa Nerd
That would be my self-description tonight. After scrambling to get down to the delayed Sox-Yanks game, angsting over parking taking so long, and practically running there [does that count as exercise?] with visions of my dad putting around the TW statue muttering with his headphones on, we left in the 4th when the f-ing monsoon started up again. I think I might hate rain more than snow now. The shoveling thing sucks, but I'll be honest, I shovel like once a winter. I'm lazy and good at cleverly getting other people to do my responsibilities. But yeah, it's a tough call after this spring and summer. Hard to imagine the middle of the country is dry when we are turning into a rainforest.
I should back up: no exercise today, worked in Cambridge, had 2 Reese's cups, a DD tea and 2 bites of rotten yogurt for breakfast. Intended to just have the yogurt, the rot prompted the Reese's...I'm lying....I INTENDED to have a Finagle A Bagel that Andy was grabbing for me if they were open, but they weren't. They have been "Opening Soon" for 6 months, quickly becoming the Big Dig of round foods. Anyhow, had my yogurt as back up but my yogurt expired Sept 13, and I noticed this after consuming a good tablespoon. I think this unwilling experiment proves exactly how much even good yogurt tastes like ass.
Went to the mall and got my Mac Airport [blog from the couch! work from the couch! google from my couch! use my iphone on my WiFi! thank god!] and a Tendercrisp Salad from BK, with a diet coke and Italian dressing. Ate at my desk, I am so social. Had a mug of hot chocolate as a mid-PM snack...it is gnarly raw out. Headed home at 7 [!] only to be called by my dad and told the game was on, for 8. It was bumped to 8:30, I got there late as previously discussed. We each had a foot-long, some peanuts, split a pretzel and had a Harp. I love my dad....only he could pull off the headphones/newspaper combo at Fenway for a late September Sox/Yanks meeting. It was awful. We were losing 12-3? when we left....final score 19-8. Yeah boys! I'm sure they are just reserving their energy for the play-offs, a wise choice.
So, back from the game, soaking wet and cold, angry, I redeemed my evening! I set up the AirPort BY MYSELF. And even figured out how to do the remote thing with the iPhone BY MYSELF. And tracked down a duplicate detector for iTunes online, downloaded it and am now running it BY MYSELF. While blogging. Thus the title. Self-sufficiency is the key to happy home-ownership, so hopefully tonight is the start of a trend in the right direction. As opposed to my general persona of Helpless Sally. I'm still calling my dad if I get flat tire.
That's all, had some decaf coconut chai tea and a Butterfinger as a reward for my savvy tech skills. I'm ready for bed now, long day. On the exercise front, helping B&E move tomorrow. In the monsoon. I'm so excited to see their place though, and they are adorable, so it will be ok. Erin and I need to run around Fresh Pond entirely one day soon, the race is like a week away. Acktacular!

It’s been a while
Totally normal, frequently used expression ruined by a stupid Staind song. Nothing against Staind, they are entertaining on Howard, but that music sucks. Plus it’s super depressing.
So yeah, I haven’t written since midday Sunday I guess? I will have to do this in stages. Can’t wait! Sunday afternoon progressed with 40? minutes on the bike and my arm exercises. Went to my parents, had some of those chocolate-covered pretzels from Trader Joes? They are friggin delicious like amazing delicious. Went out and ran some errands [washed my car instead of spending money at Old Navy, this must be what being responsible feels like], came back and it was still and hour until dinner so I had a banana and some more pretzels. I probably had 10 total, it’s amazing what makes me feel guilty when I’m trying to be healthy.
For dinner we had steak, potato, asparagus, some wine, more pretzels. Got home and while I don’t remember this, my notes [such a nerd] indicate I then ate a pickle, had a beer[?], a piece of garlic bread [stole 1 slice from Ed’s parents so I wouldn’t buy a whole loaf], tomato, basil and mozzarella with oil and vinegar and half a Skor bar. Jesus, I’m impressive when it’s in print. No exercise, minus washing the car, which is harder than you think. Especially with the amount of bird shit that had accumulated on my poor Corolla.
Monday I oddly can’t remember…I worked from home…oh wait, I went to the baseball game! Ok, so I didn’t have breakfast, had a Lean Cuisine for lunch and then: a kosher hot dog, 2 Coronas, a few peanut M&Ms, a few Twizzlers, some Cracker Jacks and a pretzel. And some DD Hot Chocolate, had Monster SRO tickets, which were awesome, but it was coooold. And they lost. Ok game though and got to see my wonderful old boss which is always nice.
It’s end of the quarter so I’m stressed and therefore eating horribly/erratically… Tuesday I had raisin bran with soy milk, a yogurt and a banana. Walked our running route with Erin [we were lazy and angry]. Went to trivia. WON trivia, #1, so awesome. Had my 2 Erdingers and my pizza, at the whole thing minus 1 slice. Making up for the rest of the day I’m guessing.

2 days have passed...I'm part of Generation Slack, so sue me
I am tired and backed up with life in general, so this will be brief. And I'm fixing typos tomorrow, if needed:
Wednesday
Had a gross caf everything bagel w/ a butter and lite cream cheese. Had some tea.
P brought in lunch for our mtg, half a turkey sandwich. some chips, a pickle, caeser salad and a peanut butter cookie. And a diet coke. More tea. A mozzarella string cheese stick upon going home. Went running with Erin, we're getting better. We ran most of the way to and back down the bike path in Arlington. Got home, had 3 chicken nuggets, some rice and some calamari Ed made with garlic and butter and srichachi sauce. Yum! Did my arms, watched ANTM and PR and RWRRC and took a shower. Then I went to CVS to get hair dye and and bought a Skor bar and had half...2/3...of that for dessert.
Thursday
HEC on onion and tea from DD. Brought my own tea too, in hopes of being super energized for today..didn't happen. Had a mini-cannoli, so good, mid-morning. went to the Japanese place for my chicken katsu lunch special, with miso soup, rice, shumai, salad, and california rolls. More edamame too, and a diet coke. Got home and had naan with butter and a GINORMOUS bowl of TJS berry cheerio things with soy milk. Picked darling up from a work party and had move italian desserts, some mozzarella and tomatoes and 2 chocolate covered strawberries. And some prosecco. No exercise, just tired.
Going to bed now. Work + house + almost 30 and what the hell am I doing with myself = big stress. Up to 40% optimism on the house...

"Today is not going to be healthy"
Confirmed! Per my prediction this morning, here's what transpired.
First of all, I remembered halfway through today that I had a mini-cannoli yesterday [work Lindsay hooked it up!!!] that I need to fess up to. Seems like a hard thing to overlook, but the reluctant dieter's brain pulls amazing acts of omission. It had sprinkles and chocolate chips, as our trivia mantra says, go big or don't go at all.
So the rest of today: got to work, nuked my HEC on a croissant [so good, fully worth it], had a tea. Stayed full all AM and then went to lunch with PYV at the food court in the Galleria [sigh....not quite the Westford Chilli's/Applebees sigh, but sigh nonetheless]. I had all intentions of getting a salad at Burger King, even leaving PYV at our table [he thought ahead and got relatively healthy Thai food] and SAYING "I'm gonna grab a salad at BK, be right back". Unfortunately, somehow salad morphed into #4 with cheese and a diet coke [?] by the time I made it to actually ordering. I shouldn't play dumb, I realized in line I needed to go out after work boozing and decided that a salad would be a poor choice, I need bread and meat and fries to sop up the booze. Turns out all of the above were poor choices but whatevs. The Whopper Jr was delish, when is it not?
Headed out at 5:30 to Desfina to toast dear colleague Sabrina, who is leaving us, she will be missed. I had 2 Stoli Oranges and Sprite [such a girl] and a Corona. For some reason my brain doesn't get that ordering full sugar soda while mixed with alcohol is just as bad as ordering it plain, who knows. They were delicious but I have a headache and a sugar coma now. Had a banana before booze to help with immediate drunkenness, I think it worked. I feel silly and unable to drive but not take-your-clothes-off-and-carry-a-plastic-CVS-bag-around-my-apartment intoxicated. If you think I'm joking, you clearly don't know me so well.
Matt gave me a ride home [thanks Matt!] and I just had some water and TJ's mac and cheese with tomatoes. When one is making mac and cheese from a box, the impulse is to make it even less healthy, correct? So I added a slice of LOL American cheese to it. When in Rome... I used soy milk and earth balance instead of milk and butter, that has to off-set something.
Beyond that, the house is making my head hurt more than the Sprite overdose. I'm teetering on, "I love it, can't wait to live there, I'll have a yard and a garage!" and, pardon my French but I have perma-trucker mouth, "Fuck these douchebags, something else equal or even better will come along". BUYERS MARKET, that's all I have to say. I can feel my blood pressure rising, so I think I'm going to tie it up, change into some PJs and drunkenly fall asleep to Love Line on the radio. One day I will need to blog about my love for all talk radio. Well, NPR drives me nuts sometimes, as does Sports Talk, but needless to say, gun to head, I'd listen to yammering on the dial over music any day of the week.
No exercise unless you count booking it to DD this morning [almost breaking my ankle in process] to get my croissant before the bus showed up. And walking through Best Buy to the food court. And walking to the bar. That's all gotta count for something, right? Right??
